Communication on archive.folx.org

Hi everybody,

just thinking: if we mainly want to keep this as an archive / media resource without much community features it's fine with me. But it's of course also possible to enable / encourage more communication, if we want it... forums, groups, whatever.
Facebook serves this (and photo albums) better, probably. But, on the other side, a nice particular folk musicians community could also be good...
So: what do you think? Comments welcome! ;-)

Some of my thoughts:
Ideally I would love to see an active forum here. But I'm unsure if it will work. Look at the ethno-facebook groups: there are a few comments after the ethno has been, some photos and then...nothing. Just people promoting related things, which is fine, but it doesn't really work as a community. It makes sense, communities like ethno communities are only really interesting for people who have participated in them, and also it doesn't make sense to have a conversation about something unrelated to the specific ethno.

The forum on thesession.org seems to be quite active (but it's not very user friendly), and it's quite restricted to celtic music, which makes me think that an active forum for worldmusic/folkmusic could work, because it promote discussions for folk musicians all over the world. Something I would love to see! I would love to participate in discussions, both with people I know, and people I don't know. This is where facebook is a bit restricted. In small groups you tend to know people, and big groups are filled with spam and the discussion boards are not very well organized.

I don't know how many users there are on this site, or more importantly, how active they are. Also, this website is still in it's early stages, so I guess it's hard to say how active it will be. What is your idea/vision for this website, and how are you promoting it?

I would suggest to set up a quite basic forum to begin with, and see what happens as the site grows. Photo albums I don't really think are neccessary. Facebook is better for this. If you want to show a specific image, you can always put one image in html in a forum without too much trouble.
